LOS ANGELES/LONG BEACH WATERFRONT LABOR NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE
December 3, 2011

Yesterday around 11:30 a.m. OCU clerical workers at just two of the 14 companies in the negotiations walked off the job and posted pickets at four marine terminals in the port.  Longshore workers refused to cross the picket lines.  The issue was immediately addressed by the grievance process and moved to arbitration.  The arbitrator ruled that the OCU picket lines were not "bona fide" and ordered the longshore workers to return to work by 5:00 p.m., which they did.  Subsequently, the striking workers withdrew their pickets and also returned to work.
