Why is the OCU threatening to shut-down the ports?

July 7, 2010

THE FACTS:

Employers have offered:

  • Wages as good as the ILWU
  • Up to 61 days paid time off
  • Healthcare as good as the ILWU
  • No lay-offs
  • Guaranteed work-week
  • No outsourcing (no transfer of jobs or work)

 The OCU want to:

  • Turn the clock back and eliminate technology use
  • Deny employers ability to hire temporary staff as needed

THE RISK:

The continuing strike and any further disruption by the OCU  will chase cargo away from L.A./Long Beach and put good ILWU jobs at risk.

The harbor community, Southern California, and the rest of America cannot afford a port shut-down!
